Question

Take a close look at the picture below.

Butter, bath soap, hand soap and sandwich bags.

Would it bother you if all of these items were placed in the same bag?

As for me the answer is no.

I was at Wal-mart the other day and the cashier was taking forever to bag my grocery. She was putting two or three items in every bag.  I finally grabbed the above items and placed them in a bag.  The cashier about had a heart attack.

Cashier:  I can’t believe you would put that in the same bag. I would never but personal hygiene products with my food. If anyone bagged that for me I would have to return it all.

Me:  What difference does it make, everything is individually wrapped.

Cashier: Well I just think it is disgusting and I would have the person who bagged that for me fired.

Me:  I really don’t care. Could you please just hurry up?

Cashier:  I just think it is wrong.

Me:  I still don’t care. Can we just get this bagged so I can get out of here? ( I don’t recall the last time I wanted to punch someone in the face.)

Almost

It must be Monday, again.

I have day’s like this sometimes. It usually starts with a list of all the things I want to accomplish that day, I want to do something, I need to do something, but damned if my ass does not get off the couch.

Nice!

What do you think of this shirt?

I like it!

Andrew created this shirt at school.  He came up with the design, made a stencil, chose the color and pressed the shirt.  Not bad, not bad at all.

I told him he should have kept the stencil, he could of made some money. Naturally, he just rolled his eyes at me. (The West ‘O Rays is the baseball team he is on.)

BTW, I did not know about this project until 9:30 p.m. the night before when I was told he needed a white T-shirt.

Change Your Words

James sent me this video, and it is worth watching.  I’m not sure if it was the music or the message but it choked me up. (Sometimes I surprise myself with what a sap I am)

Quote Of The Day

“For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.”
Audrey Hepburn

Is Anything Safe Anymore?

It seems like every time I turn around I discover something else that is bad for me.

  • Salt
  • Eggs
  • Coffee
  • Chocolate
  • Worrying
  • Working to hard
  • Lack of sleep
  • Too much sleep
  • Eating too much
  • Not eating enough
  • Not enough exercise
  • And on and on the list goes….

The other day I read this article highlighting yet another thing that is bad for my health.

The Most Dangerous Thing You’ll Do All Day

Scientists at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana analyzed the lifestyles of more than 17,000 men and women over about 13 years, and found that people who sit for most of the day are 54 percent more likely to die of heart attacks.

That’s right—I said 54 percent!

Masters immediately called the lead researcher at Pennington, a professor named Peter Katzmarzyk. Turns out, this wasn’t the first study to link sitting and heart disease. Similar research actually dates back to 1953, when British researchers found that (sitting) bus drivers were twice as likely to die of heart attacks as (standing) trolley operators.

Here’s the most surprising part: “We see it in people who smoke and people who don’t,” Katzmarzyk told Masters. “We see it in people who are regular exercisers and those who aren’t. Sitting is an independent risk factor.”

In other words, it doesn’t matter how much you exercise or how well you eat. If you sit most of the day, your risk of leaving this world clutching your chest—whether you’re a man or women—as much as doubles.

This raised a rather obvious question: Why? Truth is, the researchers aren’t sure. But Marc Hamilton, Ph.D., one of Katzmarkzyk’s colleagues, suspects it has to do with an enzyme called lipoprotein lipase (LPL), which breaks down fat in the bloodstream and turns it into energy. Hamilton found that standing rats have ten times more of the stuff coursing through their bodies than laying rats. It doesn’t matter how fit the rats are; when they leave their feet, their LPL levels plummet. Hamilton believes the same happens in humans.

Still sitting? Then you should know that your office chair also:

1. Screws up your posture. The fascia, the tissue that connects individual muscles into a full-body network, begins to set when you stay in one position for too long, says Men’s Health advisor Bill Hartman, P.T., C.S.C.S., a physical therapist in Indianapolis. If you’re hunched over a keyboard all day, this eventually becomes your normal posture.

2. Makes you fatter. This happens for two reasons. First, you burn 60 more calories an hour when standing versus sitting. But more importantly, says Hartman, when you spend too much time sitting, your largest muscle group—the glutes (a.k.a. your butt)—become lazy and quit firing. This is called gluteal amnesia. And it means you burn fewer calories.

3. Causes lower back pain. Weak glutes push your pelvis forward, putting stress on the spine, says Hartman. Here’s the other unseemly thing that happens when your pelvis tilts forward: Your belly protrudes, making you look 5 months pregnant.

Well hell, I had better get off my behind and get to standing around :)

It’s That Time of Year

Once again we find ourselves in baseball season.  It is not yet the middle of April and Andrew has all ready had six games.  It has been a rough start for the West Omaha Ray’s they are currently 0-6.  On several occasions they have had the lead, unfortunately they can’t manage to keep the lead.  It has been frustrating for Andrew and the team.

Yesterday Andrew almost, almost had his first home run hit.

It’s going…..

Going…..

Still going…
