Question Of The Day

When going grocery shopping do you wipe the cart handle with an anti-bacteria wipe? I have not, put starting today I will.

Study: Fecal Bacteria Found on Most Supermarket Shopping carts.

New research shows that nearly three out of four shopping cart handles are rife with fecal bacteria, including some that can cause severe illness.

Professor Charles Gerba, the lead researcher in the University of Arizona study, took samples from the handles of 85 carts across four states for bacterial contamination.

Gerba says 72 percent of the carts tested positive for fecal bacteria, with up to half the samples containing Escherichia coli, otherwise known as E. coli.

I always wash my hands as soon as I get home from the store, but this article makes me almost want to wear gloves the next time I go shopping.  I never thought of poop being on the handle. I normally picture mice walking across the food.

Z-Type

I recently played a game called z-type. It is a game were words come down and you have to type the words before they reach your base. When you type the words, the words blow up. Sometimes there are bigger words and if you don’t type them in time smaller words or a bunch of letters will come off of them. I got to wave 34 and i got bored. Who can beat my score?

The Trojan War

I did a post about the Golden Apple a couple weeks ago and this is the followup story. The Trojan War. The Trojan War was a long gruesome battle that lasted about 10 years. Some of the main points of the story are what I’m gonna talk about.
There was a guy named Achilles. He was the son of the nymph Thetis and the mortal Peleus. Achilles mom (Thetis) wanted Achilles to be immortal like herself. But since Achilles had a mortal father he couldn’t be immortal, unless his mom took him to a river that made people immortal. If Thetis touched the river at all she would become mortal. Thetis went and dipped Achilles in the river but the only thing that didn’t go in was his Achilles tendon. (that’s were the name Achilles tendon comes from today).
Achilles and Paris eventually died in warfare. (cause of death unknown). Greece got sick of the war and they were running low on supplies so they had to end the war soon because disaster was waiting to happen. The Greeks had a soldier named Odysseus. He was a very good at strategies in wars. He came up with a plan. His plan was that everyone sail “a day away,” which means to sail away from Troy for a day. He also needed someone to stay with the Trojan Horse so it’s delivered to Troy properly. The Trojan horse was the horse with about ten people inside (including Odysseus). The one man that stayed would tell the Trojans that the Greeks quit and this beautiful horse was a present of gratitude. Luckily for the Greeks all there plans worked accordingly and once the horse was inside all the Trojans partied all that night. And while that was happening the Greeks were sailing back and they knew that once they were inside the Troy walls they could just dominate troy and they did thus ending the country Troy.

Just A Thought

While waiting for Andrew to get out of school yesterday I started to reminisce of days and years gone by. At the end of my little day dream I decided a person’s first name say’s a lot about how I relate to new people I meet with a name I have met.  In my experience, when I have met multiples of people with the same first name  I have found similar characteristics.

Here is what I have concluded.  (This is my experience only) For each name below I have met at least three people who share the same first name.

I have never met a …..

  • Julie that wasn’t sneaky
  • Becky/Rebecca I got along with
  • Dan that wasn’t humble and acute
  • Deb/Debbie/Debra that didn’t love to read
  • Sue I didn’t want to hug
  • Kim I wasn’t intimidated by
  • Cheri who wasn’t secretly trying to sabotage a person
  • Mark I didn’t want to punch in the face
  • Michelle that wasn’t audacious
  • Sonya that wasn’t funny
  • Angie/Angela that wasn’t a backstabbing kiss ass
  • Bill I didn’t like
  • Frank that wasn’t arrogant
  • Jeff that wasn’t well dressed and admirable
  • Amy that wasn’t as cute as a button
  • Jody that wasn’t secretly hiding something
  • Paul I didn’t have a secret crush on
  • Stuart that was ugly
  • Lisa I didn’t love or hate
  • Joe who didn’t have an awesome smile
  • Greg that wasn’t tall

Team Captain

This past Sunday my baseball coach pulled me and another kid on my team aside after practice. I thought I did something wrong, but I couldn’t figure out what I did. Finally, my coach told me that him and the assistant coach had made the decision that they wanted Devin(another kid on my baseball team) and I to be team captains. The coach said that Devin and I have really been working hard and that we should honor being a team captain. He told me to think about it and the next practice I told him yes. My responsibilities as a team captain are: to lead stretching, calisthenics, and to pick the team up when they’re down. This is a huge honor for me and I’m very excited.

The Golden Apple

For the past week my social studies teacher has been telling the story of the golden apple and the story of the Trojan war. I’m going to tell you the story of the golden apple.
First, I’m going to tell you the story of Paris which will come into play later in the story. Paris was the sun of King Priam of Troy and Queen Hecuba of Troy. After Paris was born, the king and queen of Troy had a baby shower. During the baby shower they had a fortune teller tell the fortune of Paris. The fortune teller saw that Paris would destroy the kingdom of Troy. So King Priam sent Paris away on a mountain and a sheep herder came along and took Paris home. The herder raised Paris to his teens.
Starting the story, there was a wedding ceremony for a goddess marrying a mortal (human). Everyone in the town was invited except the goddess of discord, Of course she wasn’t happy. So during the ceremony she made a really pretty golden apple that said “to the fairest.”
So Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena(3 goddesses) started to fight over it because they all thought they were the fairest.
So, since the gods and goddesses loved to mess with the mortals, they said “let’s put Paris in charge to solve this problem.”
Then, the three goddesses Hera, Aphrodite and Athena all appeared at Paris’s house in the mountains. The goddess Athena goes to Paris and says “If you let me have the apple, I will let you be the king of any kingdom you want. Then Hera says ” I will let you have all the wisdom in the world and you’ll be able to outsmart any king and become king of the whole Greek country. Then Aphrodite says I’ll let you marry anyone you want and of course Paris chooses that one.
Paris hears around town that the prettiest girl in Greece, Helen just got married. So Paris goes to “congratulate” her on her marriage. So he, his brother Hector, go to have dinner with Helen and her spouse.
So Paris tells Aphrodite that’s the one I want. so then he takes her home but halfway there Hector notices Helen. So he says ” We have to take her back.” After arguing they finally take her back.
All the other people that wanted to marry Helen signed a contract to be in a picking by the king to see who marries Helen. The contract says that they will defend Helen if she is ever taken or harmed. So all of those people that signed that contract(included kings) had to defend Helen’s honor. And that is the story of the golden apple and that is also how the Trojan war started. Which I will post about next week.

It’s Here!

Falling Snow

See the pretty snowflakes
falling from the sky;
On the wall and housetops
Soft and thick they lie.

On the window ledges,
On the branches bare;
Now how fast they gather,
Filling all the air.

Look into the garden,
Where the grass was green;
Covered by the snowflakes,
Not a blade is seen.

Now the bare black bushes,
All look soft and white,
Every twig is laden
What a pretty sight!

It snowed all day Sunday, it is supposed to snow all day today and continue snowing into Tuesday morning. This is the first time this winter where we have actually had a significant snow fall.

It is actually quite beautiful.

I love when everything is covered in fresh new snow. It has a calming effect on me. It’s when everything starts to turn brown from dirt that I start to dislike the snow.
